Art Education (Master) - University of Giessen (Gießen)

4 semesters
Main course language:
German
Degree awarded:
Master of Arts [M.A.]
Areas of Focus:
Artistic communication, Communication of Art and Visual Media, Extracurricular art education/cultural activities
Tuition fees:

None

Notices:
The image as a communication medium has a central role in modern culture dominated by digital media. At the same time, since the 1980s, art has experienced a great increase in social and economic importance. In this context, for the subject Art Education there are new challenges and areas of activity outside the school, reflected by various specialisations in the profile areas of the Master’s course. The course is based on a broad understanding of artistic education in which various aspects of theory and practice of art and education are considered and interrelations are investigated. Integration as well as profile-forming accentuation of the different components of the subjects is intended to convey the immanent inter-disciplinary character of an artistic education. For more information on the Master's course in "Art Education" see www.uni-giessen.de/studium/studienangebot/master/kunstpaed
Admission Requirements:
- Germany
The following qualifications are considered relevant for studying a Master's course in Art Education: a Bachelor's degree in Art Education, a multi-subject Bachelor's degree with Art Education as a main subject, as well as a Teaching Qualification (for grammar schools) with Art as a main subject. Recognised as equivalent are: academic degrees in the subject areas Cultural Studies with focus on Art, Media Studies with focus on Art, Fine Arts and Art History, as well as related subject areas with artistic/aesthetic components. After individual consideration, the Examination Committee may recognise other courses as equivalent and take into account additional professional experience. Proof of artistic aptitude is however required for all cases. This is achieved by passing a portfolio test as prescribed by the regulations on proof of artistic aptitude. A grade of "good" or better is required in all cases.
