Applying for Master’s in Germany: Part I

30/01/2017 - 08:02-24 Comments by | india flag

Hello Everyone,

As i have received few mails from people asking what steps they should follow while applying for Master’s in Germany, I thought its better to write a blog and answer to their query.

So, you have decided that you want to do your Master’s from Germany, but don’t have an idea how to start, which universities to apply to, what course to select  and having a lot of other buzzing unanswered queries. I hope following few steps might help you out get started.

  • If you are reading this blog, then I guess you are already on the right track by checking DAAD-website. DAAD provide you explicit information about studying in Germany and you will find almost all your answers here.
  • It is important that you first decide in which field do you want to do your master’s. This, generally should not be decided in a moment and I suggest you take your time thinking what interest you, what you want yourself to be after your master’s, which subjects you liked during your bachelor’s and what future does it hold.
  • Why I am emphasizing on this thing is because if you do your master’s in something which doesn’t evoke you, it will be an arduous task to complete your master’s.
  • Now that you have decided the field, it’s time to go for targeting the universities. Search on DAAD website , and you will find all the universities which offer course in that corresponding field.
  • Say, you selected Electrical Engineering as field for masters, DAAD will list down all the universities which offers courses of Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Jot down atleast 15 universities in the starting which offers courses relevant to the field you have decided. You can screen out  few universities afterwards.

In part II of this blog i will list down further steps you should follow and explain how to apply to the universities.

Thank you

      Hi,
Each German university is responsible for determining its own admission policies. That’s why you should ask the International Office at the German university of your choice whether you fulfill all the requirements for admission and how much of your previous academic work will be recognised. You will find a list of universities and courses in our database https://www.study-in.de/en/plan-your-studies/find-programme-and-university/

      Hi,
there are no postgraduate courses for Medicine in Germany because Medicine is not split into bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Medical students in Germany have to complete a six-year programme which concludes with the State Examination (Staatsexamen). There are no courses offered in English, so you will need very good German skills to complete the programme and pass the examinations. Courses on Medicine you can find in our database https://www.study-in.de/en/plan-your-studies/find-programme-and-university/

    Hello, I am soon going to be applying for the MSc in Computer Science program in University of Bonn. I also want to apply for a DAAD Scholarship as I do that. After doing some research, I need to clarify a few things;

How do I go about it?

Do I apply on the DAAD portal and then send the required documents to University of Bonn?

Do I fill the DAAD Scholarship form, attach other required documents and send it in with my MSc application to the University of Bonn?
