You have registred at the Residents` Registration Office but still don't have a residence permit? In this case your home country is supposingly not part of the EU or EWR, which leads you straight to the Aliens' Registration Office (Ausländeramt) in your city.

Your passport and current visa, if you have one

After your documents have been checked your visa will be transformed into a "residence permit for study purposes". At first, your residence permit is issued for two years. In case your academic programme takes longer to complete, you must extend your residence permit once more before the two years have passed. Therefore you have to proof, that you are a regular student at a German university and have taken and passed all the necessary tests and exams.
