Fernanda from Ecuador: Student trainee in the IT sector

Name: Fernanda Venegas
City: Würzburg, studies Business Information System
Age: 30
Home Country: Ecuador

Job:  I’ve been working at the help desk of the internal IT  for one year now.

Salary: As a student trainee I get 12.16 Euro per hour. Besides the great working conditions it’s really well paid, too.

Working hours: As they are flexible I can decide myself, when I want to work. Even for leave days I only have to notify them two days in advance. That comes in handy if I want to fly home to Ecuador for a few weeks. Usually I work twice a week from 8 am to 3 pm.

Tasks: First-level-support, meaning software installations, assisting with hardware problems, personal and telephonic customer support and processing complaints.

Find spot:  I found the ad of my company on Google. On the website of the company you can find lots of student jobs offered all across Germany, mostly in the IT sector. Just check it out!

Requirements: Computer knowledge, a completed training as a qualified IT specialist or studies in IT respectively business informatics would fit perfectly. But students with a great technical interest who can do some programming are also wanted.

Reasons: Thanks to this job I’m gaining work experience and earn some money. But I also like meeting my colleagues in my free time, which keeps me from feeling bored. This is how I can improve my German and learn to work more independently.

No gos: This job is not made for people who are not stress resistant and have no technical interest.

Fernanda Venegas has been studying in Würzburg since 2008. She’s earning some extra money working at the help desk of a logistics systems and waste management company. Study-in editor Kathrin Königl visited her at work.
